COALINGA, Calif. — A wildfire in rural western Fresno County has grown larger but firefighters also have increased containment. Authorities say the Mineral Fire west of Coalinga expanded to more than 30 square miles and is 30% contained Friday morning.
Four structures have been destroyed and 60 remain threatened. No injuries are reported. Evacuations encompassed the community of Bingham Springs and homes on various roads west to the Monterey County line.
The fire is in a portion of Fresno County that the U.S. Drought Monitor has designated as abnormally dry for several months.
