National Weather Service: Wildfires are moving slower than they did last year

We are right in the middle of wildfire season and already Kern County has seen a handful of blazes burning this summer. But across the state fires are moving slower than they did last year.

According to the National Weather Service's Sacramento office so far this year only about 23,000 acres have burned across the Golden State. This time last year more than 615,000 acres had burned during wildfire season up this point.

While that's good news for firefighters and California residents, NWS warns August is typically the busiest month for wildfires.
