Pilot OK after F-16 plane crashes at March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) — An F-16 plane has crashed at the end of a runway at March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County.

The pilot of the plane, who was the only occupant, was ejected and is believed to be OK.

The crash was reported at about 3:15 p.m. The plane crashed at the end of the runway while landing, Major Perry Covington, a spokesman at March Reserve AFB, said.

The plane hit a warehouse located right by the runway and temporarily caught fire. Images from AIR7 HD showed a large hole on the roof of the building, with sprinklers turned on.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

The pilot is part of the 144th Fighter Wing. They are a Air National Guard unit based in Fresno.
