SAN FRANCISCO — (AP) — Authorities say California Highway Patrol officers fatally shot a 23-year-old man over the weekend in Oakland after he rammed a stolen car into their vehicles.
Oakland police did not release video footage or other evidence confirming that suspect Erik Salgado was threatening state highway patrol officers before he died.
Oakland police are investigating the death and released the statement identifying Salgado late Tuesday, three days after he died in a neighborhood near an elementary school and his mother's house.
People protesting the killing say highway patrol officers fired dozens of times into the car. Salgado's death came amid global protests over the videotaped death of George Floyd.
