The McFarland Unified School District is proposing to change McFarland Middle School into a junior high school.

According to the McFarland USD Facebook page, the district would change the middle school into a junior high school as a way to ease students' transitions from elementary school to middle school for post-5th graders.

The junior high school would serve 7th and 8th graders starting in the 2019-2020 school year. The district's elementary schools would serve students in grades transitional kindergarten (TK) through 6th grade, also beginning in the 2019-2020 school year. 

According to the McFarland USD Facebook page, the district has had three elementary schools (grades TK-5), one middle school (grades 6-8), and one traditional high school (grades 9-12).
