About a thousand demonstrators gathered at California's capitol Friday to protest the state's stay-at-home order. Police were spotted detaining at least four people. An effort called "Re-open California" is behind the demonstration.
Organizers say they had wanted participants to protest from their cars to maintain social distancing. But, the aerial video shows many swarmed the capitol grounds.
The California Highway Patrol says the demonstrators didn't have a permit for the gathering. The patrol formed a barrier and slowly pushed the protesters off the property.
The patrol says it has banned such rallies at the capitol. One of the COVID-19 restrictions in California prohibits large gatherings.
