Southern California Edison posted an alert stating that over 17,000 customers face power shutoffs as a result of weather conditions. No Kern County customers will be affected.

According to the alert, "Due to weather conditions that may create the potential for elevated fire risk, Public Safety Power Shutoffs are under consideration in parts of the SCE service territory."

Among those that could be potentially affected are residents of Los Angeles County, Orange County, San Bernardino County, Santa Barbara County, and Ventura County.

A Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event is caused when potentially dangerous weather conditions could result in wildfires.

"During these events, we will proactively turn off power in high fire risk areas to reduce the threat of wildfires. Turning off our customers’ power is not something we take lightly, but PSPS events are one of the ways we can better ensure the safety of the public, our customers, and our employees."
