SAN GABRIEL, Calif. — A standoff in San Gabriel in LA County ended with gunfire, a chase and the suspect's death.

Police were called out to investigate a man with a shotgun who may have assaulted a relative. The man then barricaded himself inside his home and exchanged gunfire with authorities.

The San Bernardino Freeway was shut down for a time because the suspect fired toward the road. At one point smoke could be seen pouring from the house prompting the suspect to flee. He could be seen running to nearby homes and attempting to break into them.

After searching for the suspect deputies found him lying on the ground in a backyard. Authorities confirmed the suspect had died.
