SAN DIEGO – Two children are safe after a stray bullet came flying into their apartment and struck the air mattress upon which they were sleeping early Thursday morning in San Diego’s Ridgeview-Webster neighborhood.

According to San Diego police, the incident began before 2:30 a.m. outside the Regency Center Apartments in the 4700 block of Home Avenue.

Police said a man and woman were arguing in the street when the man pulled out a gun and fired a shot. The bullet went into a second floor apartment and struck an air mattress upon which two children were sleeping in the living room.

The children were not injured. The mother said the bullet lodged in the air mattress.

"The bed was completed deflated,” the children’s mother said. “They (the police officers) saw where the bullet had went through, by the head where the kids sleep. And he moved the blanket that's on top of that, and the bullet had ran through. And they were looking for it, and they found the bullet inside the blanket."

The suspect did not know the family prior to the shooting, police said. David Bradley Terry, 32, was arrested at the scene and booked on one count each of shooting at an occupied dwelling and corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant. He is being held in the San Diego County Jail on $225,000 bail.

The exact circumstances that escalated the situation were not confirmed.
