SAN BERNARDINO -- A massive vigil was held in San Bernardino to honor the teacher and young student killed in a tragic shooting.
Hundreds of students, parents, and staff members gathered outside of North Park Elementary School to pay tribute to the special education teacher, Karen Smith, and the 8-year-old student, Jonathan Martinez.
Martinez was born with a genetic condition known as “Williams Syndrome,” and had successfully undergone heart surgery.
Investigators say the shooter was Smith’s estranged husband. The couple married in late-January, but separated last month after the husband accused Smith of cheating.
Police say Smith never shared anything about her marriage problems with her colleagues and kept details about her private life to herself.
