Worker hangs Mexican flag atop Trump Hotel

Posted

A worker who helped build Trump International Hotel in Vancouver says he took a stand against the building's namesake and his immigration policies over the weekend.

Diego Saul Reyna posted a photo and message about his decision to hang a Mexican flag at the top of the hotel's tower on Saturday in the Canadian city.

He made the move "because from the concrete pouring, finishing, drywall, taping, wood forming and general labor, Mexicans were there, building it, doing good work," he wrote in the post.

"The comments Trump has made about us, did not stop us from doing the high quality work we have always done, in our home country or when we migrate to the US/Canada," he wrote.

Reyna posted the message and photo to Facebook Saturday and it has now been shared more than 3,500 times. The flag has reportedly since been removed.

Trump has come under fire for his comments about immigrants, specifically Mexicans.

When he announced his presidential candidacy in June, Trump said Mexican immigrants are "bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

ABC News' calls to the Trump organization were not immediately returned.

The hotel itself is still under construction and is slated to be opened this fall.

It will have 147 guest rooms, 218 private residences, a champagne lounge and "Vancouver's first pool bar nightclub," according to the Trump Organization's website for the hotel.
