Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani pleaded not guilty Tuesday in an Arizona felony case over attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Giuliani is charged with fraud, conspiracy and forgery in the case. During Tuesday's hearing, Giuliani, who appeared virtually, decried the charges.

“I do consider this indictment a complete embarrassment to the American legal system," he said. "But I’ve shown no tendency not to comply.”

Giuliani now has 30 days to report to Arizona for booking and pay a $10,000 bond.

According to the indictment, Giuliani and 17 others orchestrated an effort to have Trump supporters submit fraudulent ballots to the Electoral College even though Joe Biden won the state in 2020.

The attorney for former Arizona Republican Party Chair Kelli Ward, who is also charged in the case, defended his client's actions.

"They didn’t overturn their votes," attorney Brad Miller told Scripps News.

Several other defendants still need to be arraigned in this case, including former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.

A trial is scheduled to begin in mid-October.
