Local athletes sign to play in college

Posted

Another batch of high school seniors across Kern County will move on to play college athletics next season. Here are the athletes who signed today (if we missed anyone email stephen.hicks@kero.com).

SHAFTER:

Four seniors from the cross country team that won a valley championship are moving on run in college and three of them are heading to the same school. Joe Carranza, Manuel Carranza and Felix Baldemar all signed to play cross country and track at Fresno Pacific University.

This year Julian Irigoyen (former athlete of the week) won an individual valley title in cross country. He will move on the Wingate University in North Carolina for cross country and track.

INDEPENDENCE:

Colorado State commit Breana Runnells may have gotten all of the attention during Independence volleyball's 2015 valley championship run but make no mistake; she had plenty of help. Mahalia Swink brought plenty of power to the net and helped the Falcons to one of the best offenses in the valley. Swink signed today to play volleyball next season at the University of Alabama.

LIBERTY:

Quinn Giesick (former AOTW) is a big part of why Liberty softball is currently riding a 4 game win streak in the SWYL. The senior has brought a powerful bat to the three spot in the Patriots' order and at the catcher position helps keep the pitching staff grounded. Giesick signed today to play next season at East Tennessee State University.

McKenzie Stan will play golf at Concordia University in Oregon.
