Bakersfield College was fired up Saturday night. It was their second game at home this season. They faced off against the Santa Monica Corsairs and defeated them, 56-0.

Santa Monica came into tonight’s game, 0-2. The Renegades, just coming off a close win over El Camino last Saturday, 20-15.

Freshman Shane Jones led the charge with an early touchdown to get the Renegades on the board, 7-0.

Jones kept it coming with two more touchdowns in the first half, alone. Sophomore Elijah Ortiz and Garces alum Isaiah Martin also tacked on a touchdown each. That extended the Renegades lead, 42-0 by halftime.

The defense also put in work with two turnovers and a touchdown by defensive back Steven Figures.

Like Martin, freshman Maceo Barbosa made his first appearance tonight, and even landed himself a touchdown.

Head Coach Jeff Chudy says this game was a great opportunity for some players to make their first appearance.

“That was a good win for us. We got to play a lot of players and that’s a great thing. We got a lot of guys that worked really hard and it was good to see a lot of these guys get on the field. I’m happy about that for sure,” said Chudy.

The Renegades now improve to 2-1. They will hit the road next week to face off against Golden West.
