Tomorrow, on December 14, 2016, sports history will be made in Kern County.
The Golden Valley High School (GVHS) Bulldog girls' wrestling team will face off against the Shafter High School (ShHS) Generals girls' wrestling team for the first all-girls wrestling meet in Kern County.
"This is a historic event for the Kern High School District and the wrestling programs from Shafter and Golden Valley are honored to take part," Shafter girls' wrestling coach Rick Gabin said. "Both schools worked hard reaching out to female athletes to build their respective girls' programs."
All of the senior girls on Golden Valley's team received wrestling scholarships last year.
"Girls' wrestling is the fastest growing sport in America," GVHS girls' wrestling coach Aaron Wherry said. "It is our intention that this duel is a step toward shining a light on these outstanding young ladies and the opportunities they have in wrestling."
The event will be held in the Shafter High School gym at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
