Local teams make push towards state championship in the second round of playoffs

BAKERSFIELD, Ca. — Local teams on the basketball courts and soccer fields continued their push for a state championship on Thursday with the second round of playoffs.

Of the seven teams competing, three teams have advanced, including a Regional Final in soccer.

SOCCER -

Boys

D4: No. 2 Foothill fell to No. 3 Troy, 1-0 (OT)

D5: No. 1 Garces defeated No. 4 San Dimas, 4-1

Girls

D5: No. 4 Arvin fell to No. 1 South El Monte, 1-0

BASKETBALL -

Boys

D4: No. 7 Independence fell to No. 2 Providence, 64-58

D5: No. 1 Foothill defeated No. 8 Arleta, 79-60

Girls

D3: No. 1 McFarland defeated No. 8 Village Christian, 65-56

D4: No. 7 Tehachapi fell to No. 2 Oak Park, 81-41

Garces advanced from the SoCal Regional Semifinal to the championship game on Saturday hosted at Tobias Field at 4 p.m. While, the Foothill and McFarland basketball teams will host the SoCal Regional Semifinals on Saturday at 6 p.m.
