Madisen Dougherty leads Ridgeview volleyball in kills earning athlete of the week honors

If you watch Ridgeview senior Madisen Dougherty play volleyball, one thing stands out. She gets a lot of kills. "We're just in awe of her," said first year coach Deb Whitbey. "I was in awe of her as a sophomore my first year."

"Every game I just aim for a lot of kills," said Dougherty. This season that's worked out pretty well as she's put up double digit kills in five matches. In all but one of those games the Wolf Pack won.

Although league play hasn't started yet, Ridgeview has put up the best preseason record of any team in the South Yosemite League. "It's exciting because it's anybody's league this year," said Whitbey.

Teammates say a big part of that early success comes from Dougherty. "Whether she's front row, back row, that's kind of my go to hitter," said senior setter Jiana Ejbara. "I know if I set her up she's going to get me a kill."

Dougherty is one of the senior leaders on a Ridgeview squad that's 12-8 to start the year. She says she knows she's one of the leaders on this year's team but is "really quiet about it."

"She just has amazing composure on the court," said Whitbey. "Whether she does something really, really good and makes a kill or makes a mistake, she's always even keel."
