He had a voice many fans of wrestling recognized immediately: Gene Okerlund, a famous announcer, has died at age 76.

Nicknamed "Mean Gene" by Jesse "The Body" Ventura, Okerlund had a career that spanned World Championship Wrestling, World Wrestling Entertainment and the American Wrestling Association, according to Fox News.

Okerlund's cause of death has not been announced. Fox News reports the announcer had kidney transplants in 1995 and 2004.
