Tom Brady's first tweet was an April Fool's joke

Tom Brady used his first-ever tweet to celebrate April Fools' Day.

The six-time Super Bowl champ activated his Twitter account in March, but waited to tweet in order to troll his new followers on Monday.

"I'm retiring. In my spare time, I'll be tweeting #LFG," Brady tweeted.

About an hour later, Brady later responded to his own tweet with a rhetorical question: "Was this a bad joke?"

Brady had just over 1,000 followers in the minutes following his first tweet. About an hour after tweeting, he had racked up nearly 60,000 followers.

Pro Football Talk later confirmed that Brady's tweet was an April Fool's joke.

Brady has stated in the past that he hopes to play until he's 45 years old. He'll turn 42 in August.

The Patriots' team Twitter account was apparently not amused by Brady's tweet.
