UPDATE: Approximately 15 acres were burned along Highway 58 Thursday afternoon as crews from the Kern County Fire Department battled a fire near Broome Rd. Fire crews have stopped the fire's forward progress, but will remain on the scene "until full containment is reached." Drivers in the area should be alert for emergency vehicles and personel.

The Kern County Fire Department is battling a vegetation fire along Highway 58 near Broome Rd.
Drivers are being advised to be alert for heavy smoke in the area, as well as emergency response vehicles.
