June's strawberry full moon is the first of its kind since 1967

Once in a blue moon this Saturday
Posted

For the first time since 1967, the first day of summer and the full moon will occur on the same day.

Summer officially begins June 20 at 6:34 p.m. EDT and the full moon occurs in the morning at 7:02 EDT.

It's been almost 50 years since this happened last, making this more rare than a blue moon, but not as rare as Cleveland bringing home a championship.

June's full moon is commonly called the Strawberry Moon because it would coincide with the time Algonquin tribes could pick fruits like strawberries.

It also goes by other names like the Rose Moon, Hot Moon and the Honey Moon.

The next time the Strawberry Moon and the first day of summer coincide will be on June 21, 2062.

Let's just hope, for Cleveland's sake, they'll be able to bring home another championship before then.
