Update 8:30 p.m.: The Kern County Fire Department has provided an update. The Shell fire has now grown to 1,200 acres and is 2% contained.

Update: According to Cal Fire 250 acres have burned so far and is zero percent contained.

A car that caught on fire and sparked a grass fire along the Grapevine has closed down one lane as crews work to battle the blaze.

According to the California Highway Patrol page a man was seen trying to put out a fire just before 1 p.m. the fire later spread to the hillside causing another fire.

Currently one lane is closed and traffic in other areas are backed up.
