Kern County Sheriff's Office identifies man killed in China Grade Loop crash

UPDATE: The Kern County Sheriff's Office announced that 75-year-old Richard Neal Bowen was killed when his vehicle overturned on the China Grade Loop north of Alfred Harold Highway.


The California Highway Patrol is reporting at least one person is dead in an accident near Oildale on Monday.

According to CHP, Bakersfield area officers responded to a crash with an overturned vehicle on China Grade Loop, south of Round Mountain Road, at about 4:05 p.m. Monday.

A 75-year-old man was driving a 2012 Toyota southbound on China Grade Loop when, due to unknown reasons, the vehicle became out of control veering onto a dirt shoulder and hitting a chain link fence, said CHP. The Toyota overturned after the impact and the Bakersfield Fire Department crew removed the man from the vehicle but he was unresponsive and later died from his injuries, according to CHP.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, said CHP.
