UPDATE (5:30 PM) : The California Highway Patrol said 74-year-old Wasco man, Juan Antonio Fernandez, was killed in crash after running a stop sign on Hwy. 43 at Pond Road.
CHP said the crash was reported shortly after 3:30 p.m. CHP said an initial investigation found the man was driving a Toyota Corolla west on Pond Road and for an unknown reason ran a stop sign at the Hwy. 43 intersection, and was hit by a Ford Expedition.
CHP said the driver was declared dead at the scene.
Alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash, said CHP.
California Highway Patrol reported an accident on Pond Road and Highway 43 that left one person dead.
According to CHP, there were two cars involved where one person died, and the other driver was left uninjured. The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. near Delano.
