UPDATE (8:37 p.m.): Cal Fire reports the fire has burned to nearly 2,091 acres. According to Watch Duty, the fire is now impacting Highway 41 and has reached into Kern County.

UPDATE (7:18 p.m.): The fire has burned nearly 600 acres. According to Cal Fire, road closures include westbound SR-46 west of SR-33. Detour Northbound SR-33, then Southbound SR-41, back to Westbound SR-46.

Crews with the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department are responding to a report of a vegetation fire on the north side of Highway 46 near the Shandon area.

According to fire officials, the fire has grown to 125 acres and is growing at a moderate rate of speed. The fire has the potential to grow up to 500 acres.

Crews have requested five additional type-3 wildland engines, five additional type-3 wildland engines, two additional type-3 multi-engine air tankers, and two type-1 large air tankers to assist with containing the fire.

CHP has requested to shut down the highway.
