Flood waters not enough to stop Pizza Hut from delivering

Roads were inaccessible, flooded last week from Hurricane Harvey. Despite Harvey dropping 40 inches of rain in the Houston area and trapping people in their homes, Pizza Hut managed to deliver pizzas. 

In lieu of a traditional delivery car, the Sugar Land, Texas Pizza Hut used kayaks to deliver pizzas this week to hungry people trapped by Harvey's flood waters. 

According to the Houston Chronicle, Pizza Hut manager Shayda Habib gathered a skeleton crew of employees to prepare 120 pizzas on Tuesday to distribute to those in need.

"We packed 120 pizzas into kayaks and took them out to people in their homes," Habib told the Chronicle. "The people in the houses didn't expect us to come. It was so nice to see their smiles after so much gloom." 

Habib's crew used insulated pizza pouches to keep the pies hot on delivery. 

"We are so proud of our team for seeing a need, stepping up and helping the community in a time of devastation," Pizza Hut franchisee James Bodenstedt told KPRC.
