There’s a new variety of Milky Way coming your way — and it sounds delicious. The iconic candy bar is releasing the Milky Way Salted Caramel bar, which is a sweet-and-salty twist on the original.
The brand recently announced the new flavor on Instagram with a photo of the new candy bar along with the caption, “Coming 2020 – for all you Milky Way fans out there whether you’re feeling salty or sweet. #chocolate #candy #reveal #surprise #milkyway #new #treats”:
Although the post indicates that the new flavor will be available as of 2020, the company is rolling out 3.16-ounce “Share Size” Milky Way Salted Caramel bars at Walmart this October — just in time for Halloween! Be sure to stock up to earn the status the most on-trend house for trick-or-treaters this year.
In January 2020, Milky Way Salted Caramel candy bars will get a wider release at retailers across the country. In addition to the Share Size, they will also be available in single (1.56 ounces) and “fun size” six-packs (3.38 ounces).
The original Milky Way bar features malt-flavored nougat topped with caramel and surrounded in chocolate. The Mars Corporation explained that the name is based on a malt drink popular in 1923, when the candy bar was named.
Of course, the brand has expanded since then. It makes a dark chocolate Midnight bar, for example, which is seen here posted to the official @milkywaybrand Instagram account.
The Simply Caramel version looks smooth and delicious, seen here on @milkywaybrand:
You can also buy a Milky Way Fudge flavor, which sounds really, really good right about now. Here’s a pic from @milkywaybrand:
And there’s also a Caramel Apple flavor available, which seems perfect now that the weather is getting a wee bit colder.
Most of these are also available in Bites or mini versions that are perfect for Halloween!
Other Salted Caramel Treats
Salted caramel is a popular flavor combination, so it makes total sense that the brand would introduce this new variety. And if you can’t get enough of the salty and sweet combo, there are a number of other products our there that utilize it, such as Salted Caramel Pepsi. (It appears to be sold out on both Walmart and Target, however.)
Also, Baileys now makes canned cold brew in Irish Cream and Salted Caramel flavors. These don’t contain any alcohol, so feel free to sip on one in the morning!
If you want to go the DIY route from your own kitchen, we’re thinking this new flavor might add some dimension to the popular Milky Way salted caramel cookie recipes out there, too, such as this one from The Salted Cookie blog.
Alas, cookies are just the beginning, if you love that salted caramel flavor! Give this recipe for salted caramel chocolate chip cheesecake from Oregon Transplant a whirl.
Do you think you’ll try this new Milky Way flavor when it comes out ?
