UPDATE (Oct. 3 10:00 a.m.): 242 donors helped the Houchin Community Blood Bank on Monday in wake of the Las Vegas shooting.

107 showed up at the Bolthouse Center and 135 at the Truxton Donor Center. The Boltonhouse reported that this was a record number for their location.

A total of 190 blood samples were collected from those donors. Their mobile truck also drove to Bakersfield High School where 61 pints of whole blood were collected from 86 donors.

The organization continues to need platelets. They only received 20 on Monday and their goal is to collect 30 daily to help in the national shortfall.

Thanks to the outpour of donations the blood bank is asking that people space out their donations over the next two to three weeks.

=====================================

During a time of tragedy, many people ask how they can help. One of the first things that comes to mind is donating blood. In fact, the blood centers in Vegas had lines around the block before sunrise this morning.

Here at home, the Houchin Community Blood Bank posted on their Facebook this morning saying that had enough blood on the shelves to offer help in the Las Vegas shooting. But now they'll need to restock their supply.

They say they need O+ and O- blood types along with platelet donations, because not only will be those most needed during this time in Las Vegas but we also need those on demand here at home to support our local cancer and surgery patients.

The telephone number for both donor centers is 661-323-4222. You can also contact them via email at info@hcbb.com
