Two in custody, one outstanding suspect after Monday evening robbery in East Bakersfield

Kern County Sheriff's department is looking for a suspect in connection with a robbery on Monday night.

Juliet Thorner Elementary School was locked down on Tuesday morning due to reports of a man matching the suspect's description just west of the school.

On Monday night, around 8:30 p.m., three armed suspects robbed a man in his front yard near Edwards Avenue, just north of College Avenue. The suspects then fled the scene in a gold Honda Civic.

A short time later, deputies located the vehicle near Quincy Street and Beale Avenue. They attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit began.

Deputies chased the vehicle to the area of Morning Drive and Highway 178 where the Honda Civic was involved in a traffic accident. According to Lieutenant Bill Smallwood of the Kern County Sheriff's Office, there was a perimeter in place in East Bakersfield near Morning Drive and Auburn Street after the hree suspects fled on foot. Two of those three suspects were taken into custody.

21-year-old Maurice Hill  was arrested for robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy, brandishing a replica firearm and participating in a criminal street gang, while 20-year-old Jose Luis Fernandez was arrested for robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy, brandishing a replica firearm, participating in a criminal street gang, felony evading, delaying and obstructing and several outstanding warrants. They are both from the Delano area.

Tuesday morning around 6:30 a.m., KCSO received a call of someone matching the missing suspect's description in a backyard just west of Thorner Elementary. The lockdown was lifted after KCSO shared they do not believe the suspect is still in the area.

The outstanding suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 6'0" and 240 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and dark pants.

A pellet gun was found last night when the two suspects were arrested and KCSO believes the last suspect is armed.
