BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — You have a chance to provide your input on the future of the South High School mascot.

During Monday night's Kern High School District Board of Trustees meeting, Superintendent Bryon Schaefer went over a committee that would look into changing the school's name from the Rebels.

Recently alumni have thrown around the idea of retiring the name, citing its connection to confederate imagery.

The committee to look into a potential name change will include the school's principal, current students and South High stakeholders.
