BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — So many of us want to start the new year on a healthy note, so this week's Foodie Friday took us to Better Bowls where owner Jina McMillian showed us some nutritious but still delicious meals.

First, she showed us their new apple dijon salad.

"It’s one of our new salads that we’re coming up with for the new year so if people want to eat a little healthier they have this option when they come in to make a salad," said Jina. "So we have mixed greens, radicchio, brussels sprouts, honey crisp apple, some almonds and then we have our dijon dressing on top.”

Then Jina showed us how to make one of their popular signature bowls.

“This time we’re going to make our American bowl. So in our American, we have brown rice, we have our chilli chickpeas. These aren’t really that spicy though. These have chili seasoning on them." she said. "Then we have sweet potatoes, roasted red onions, [spinach] and then we put our red pepper hummus sauce."
