BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Jason Thorwegen said he's was homeless most of his life. With very little to give, he is spending all his time and putting everything he has into building vans to help homeless veterans.

Thorwegen said for the past three years he's converted vans to include items like a bed and furniture to make it a living space.

"It's definitely about the process of getting somebody in, trusting them, giving them the opportunities," Thorwegen said.

Although Thorwegen has received about $400 in donations to assist in his mission, most of the work is done out of his own pocket. He said he once had around $8,000 in savings, most of which has gone into building these vans.
