Everyone is still talking about the release of the latest Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. If you're just as excited as us, throw a party! Here are five simple DIYs to throw the best Harry Potter themed party.
1. Magical Drinks
Stir things up in Professor Snape's Potions Class. Watch your water or lemon/lime soda transform into a vibrant color just like the potions Harry made in class. It must be magic!
What you'll need:
- Plastic party cups
- Food coloring
- Ice
- Water or lemon/lime soda
Place two to three of food coloring at the bottom of each party cup and let it dry. Just before serving the drinks, fill each cup with ice to hide the food coloring. Pour the drink over the ice to activate the food coloring. Each drink will magically change color as you fill the cup.
Tip: Create a "fortune telling" element by assigning a meaning to each color. For example, purple equals royalty, green equals wealth, yellow equals long life. Feel free to be creative!
2. Broomsticks
No Potter party would be complete without your very own magical broomsticks.
What you'll need:
- Mini peanut butter cups
- Small pretzel sticks
All you have to do for this one is stick the pretzel sticks in the side of the peanut butter cups!
3. Hogwarts Letters with Owls
Hedwig has a special message for your party guests! You can use these letters as clues in a scavenger hunt or as "thank you" letters on the way out.
What you'll need:
- Paper envelopes
- String
- White balloons
- Black marker
Fill up your balloons with helium and secure them with a knot. Draw an owl face on the balloon with a black marker. Then tie a string around the balloon knot leaving about a foot hanging. Secure the envelopes with the string.
4. The Great Hall's Floating Candles
Turn your dining room into the magical Great Hall with this fun DIY.
What you'll need:
- Paper towel or toilet paper rolls
- White paper
- White paint
- LED tea lights
- Hot glue gun
- Fishing line
Use toilet paper rolls or cut a paper towel roll in half to create candlesticks that are about six inches long. Trace and cut out circles from the white paper that are the same diameter of your rolls. Glue your circles to the bottom of one side of the roll. On the other end of the roll, punch two small holes across from each other. Paint the paper towel rolls white. If you want to take this DIY a step further, create wax drippings using a hot glue gun. String fishing line through the holes and rest the LED light on top.
5. Platform 9 3/4 Doorway
Make a secret entrance with this Platform 9 3/4 door DIY. The muggles will never see you.
What you'll need:
- White piece of fabric that's the same size as your door
- Red/brown paint
- Curtain rod
Use a sponge to paint red bricks onto your fabric and let it dry. Secure the fabric to a curtain rod. Cut vertically down the center of the fabric.
