BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The man suspected of attacking a woman inside a vacant apartment complex has plead not guilty to charges of attempted rape and false imprisonment.

Byron Willis, 25, was in court Friday for his felony arraignment.

Police say Willis attempted to rape a women Tuesday morning inside a vacant apartment Ming Avenue and New Stine Road in Southwest Bakersfield. The victim was able to fight off the suspect who then fled on foot.

His preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 19.
