(UPDATE Oct. 15, 8:51 a.m.) The Kern County Sheriff’s Office identified Luis Castillo Jr. as the 15-year-old killed in a shooting on East 11th Street.

A 15-year-old teen was shot a killed Monday evening in East Bakersfield, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

BPD said it responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 700 block of East 11th Street around 6:20 p.m. When officers arrived, they found the teen suffering from major injuries due to gunshot wounds.

Officers began life-saving efforts and the victim was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
