BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Bakersfield Police officials said the suspect shot by a BPD officer in East Bakersfield died after being taken to the hospital Tuesday morning.
According to BPD, officers were responding to a call that a man stabbed his mother multiple times in the 500 block of Sonora Street. The witness who reported the call said the suspect had fled and was still armed with the knife.
Officers made contact with the suspect and tried to take him into custody using nonlethal ammunition but they say he did not cooperate and that's when one officer shot the suspect.
BPD said the suspect was taken to a local hospital where died from his injuries. BPD said the suspect's mother was also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
BPD officials said the officers involved were wearing body cameras and BPD would release the footage after it has been processed.
