BPD said the woman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Further investigation showed Herrera allegedly entered the woman's home through a ground floor window while the victim and another resident were sleeping.

Herrera allegedly entered the woman's bedroom and assaulted her with a glass bottle. He then fled the home when the other adult resident confronted him, BPD said.

Herrera was apprehended several blocks away from the crime scene and booked in the Kern County Jail on felony charges. He is due in court on Thursday at 3 p.m.
