BPD looking for person who may have witnessed killing of teen over the weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department is asking the public for help locating Tyrin Turner who is believed to have been in a vehicle when a 17-year-old was shot and killed in Southwest Bakersfield.

According to BPD, Kevin Lashawn Mallard was killed Saturday in the area of Edmonton Street, near Wilson Road. Officers received the call around 10:35 p.m. and when they arrived they found Mallard in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. The vehicle had collided with a detached garage

Mallard was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

BPD said Turner is believed to have been in the vehicle with Mallard when the shooting took place. BPD said Turner is not being sought for the killing of Mallard, but detectives believe he may have information pertinent to the investigation.
