BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police officer who was under investigation by Internal Affairs for wearing “blackface” makeup as part of a Halloween costume over a decade ago has been restored to full duty.

BPD Chief Greg Terry released a statement Monday, saying:

I reviewed the investigation and the facts that were presented. I have the utmost confidence in the officer to continue to represent our department in a professional, moral, and ethical manner. The officer has been returned to full duty.

The investigation was announced on June 8 after photos of the officer surfaced on social media.

Chief Terry said the officer was immediately placed on paid administrative leave as Internal Affairs investigated the matter.

"The Bakersfield Police Department is committed to serving our diverse city with dignity and respect, and we are taking immediate action to ensure that standard is met in our hiring process, our training, and our daily actions.”
