DELANO, Calif. — Following the tragic shooting deaths of two juvenile girls in Delano last week, the cities of Delano and McFarland are saying enough to gang violence.

The Delano Police Department issued a statement Monday announcing the beginning of a Delano-McFarland Regional Gang Suppression unit. This unit will be in effect until further notice, focusing its efforts on gang members, the locations they frequent and using whatever resources are available to disrupt senseless gang violence.

DPD said its seen positive results from operations similar to this in the community, and hope this new unit will continue to suppress gang violence throughout Delano and McFarland.

The Delano Police Department will be assigning 10 department members to this unit. McFarland will also be providing personnel to this unit. The Kern County District Attorney’s Office will also be contributing to the collaborative effort.
