DELANO, Calif. (KERO) — The Delano Police Department said the Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the deadly shooting of two young girls in Delano last year.

Makelia Osorno, 11, and Elayna Saidee Dorig, 12, were shot and killed outside a home during a birthday party in July, 2020.

DPD said the shooting was likely gang-related, and in the days following the girls’ deaths, officers recovered a great deal of evidence. Now the FBI is assisting in processing some of that evidence.

The department said on Feb. 16, they will deliver a presentation on its city-wide camera project that was approved last February. Since its rollout, DPD said property crimes have dropped in the city.
