KCSO arrest two suspects for homicide after human remains were located in Lamont

LAMONT, Calif. — On Oct. 16, around 9:45 am, Kern County Sheriff’s Office Deputies assigned to the Lamont Substation were conducting a follow-up investigation on a missing person.

They went to a residence in the 10000 block of Elmco Avenue in an attempt to locate the missing person. Upon arrival, they detained two individuals and discovered a deceased adult on the property.

Homicide detectives responded and assumed the investigation.

The death was originally suspicious in nature; however, through additional investigation, it was determined to be a homicide.

The two individuals detained, Jose Maldonado, 47 and Antonio Barraza, 37, were taken into custody for the death of the deceased adult found and have been booked at the Kern County Jail pending court proceedings.

The cause and manner of death will be released by the Coroner's Office pending the completion of the autopsy.

The identity of the victim will be withheld pending notification by the Coroner’s Office.
