UPDATE: Man found dead on Hwy. 58 shot in the head, ruled a homicide

BUTTONWILLOW, Calif. — (UPDATE 12/8): The Kern County Coroner's Office said that Ricardo Lopez Junior, 22, died from a gunshot wound to the head. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.


The Kern County Sheriff's Office said it is investigating a suspicious death after a body was found near Highway 58 in Buttonwillow Tuesday morning.

According to KCSO, deputies responded just before 8 a.m. to the area near Corn Camp Rd. and Hwy. 58 for reports of a body. When they arrived they found a man dead at the scene. He was later identified as 22-year-old Ricardo Lopez Junior.

Deputies said his injuries were not consistent with a crash. Homicide detectives were called to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
