UPDATE: Man found dead inside vehicle in Ridgecrest died from gunshot wound to the head

(UPDATE 12/8): The Kern County Coroner's Office identified the man found dead inside his vehicle in Ridgecrest as 41-year-old Christopher Ashley Jacobs.

The coroner said Jacobs died from a gunshot wound and that the death has been ruled a homicide.


(UPDATE 2 PM): The Kern County Sheriff's Office is investigating a body found in a vehicle that crashed in Inyokern. According to the California Highway Patrol, the body showed traumatic injuries not consistent with the vehicle accident.

CHP said it responded to the crash 6:42 a.m. When they arrived they found the body of a 40-year-old man inside the vehicle.

After investigating further KCSO homicide detectives were called out to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing. There is no suspect information at this time.

The Kern County Sheriff's Office said deputies are responding to a suspected homicide in Inyokern.

According to KCSO, deputies have responded to the area Graaf Avenue and N. Oak Lane for the incident. No additional information was given at this time.
