The Kern County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in a deadly shooting that happened Monday afternoon near Lamont.

According to KCSO, around 2:15 p.m. deputies were dispatched to the area of Fuller Dr. and Weedpatch Highway for reports of a victim of a shooting.

When deputies arrived they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Medical aid was provided, but the man died at the scene.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene and assumed the investigation.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Jonathan Villapando and an arrest warrant for murder was obtained.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Monday, deputies found Villapando in a nearby orchard and took him into custody without incident.

Officials said Villapando will be booked into the Kern County Jail.

The victim will be identified by the Kern County Coroner at a later time.

Officials said the shooting on Monday is not related to the shooting in the same area approximately a week ago.
