BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A person is in critical condition after being struck by a suspected street racer who fled the scene in East Bakersfield Wednesday night.
The Bakersfield Police Department said officers responded to a crash around t 8:49 p.m. in the area of East Brundage Lane near South King Street. When they arrived they found a pedestrian with major injuries. The victim was taken to a local hospital where they are in critical condition.
The initial investigation revealed that two vehicles appeared to be racing westbound on East Brundage Lane at a high rate of speed. While racing, one of the vehicles struck a pedestrian crossing the roadway outside of a crosswalk. After the collision occurred, both vehicles fled the scene.
The vehicle that struck the pedestrian is described as a late model BMW, light in color, with a license plate ending in “657”
