PORTERVILLE, Calif. — A Porterville Daycare owner has pleaded not guilty to eight felony counts of child molestation, according to the Tulare District Attorney's Office.

58-year-old Jose Luis Cortez Caballero is being charged with seven counts of child molestation against one minor female victim and an additional count of child molestation against another minor female victim.

Cortez was arraigned Wednesday and bail was set at $250 thousand.

Porterville Police arrested Caballero Monday morning after they received and investigated allegations of abuse.

According to the Tulare DA's office, the abuse took place from November 2018 to November 2019.

Caballero and his wife ran Caballero Family Child Care, a licensed daycare provider, for 22 years, police said.

If convicted on all charges, Caballero faces life in prison.

Caballero will return to court on Jan. 22 for a preliminary hearing.
