Ridgecrest police arrest man on attempted murder following foot pursuit

RIDGECREST, Calif. — The Ridgecrest Police Department arrested a man, suspected of attempted murder, following a foot pursuit near the Oyo Hotel.

According to RPD, Zachary Christopher Grantland, 28, is suspected of firing several shots into a home on W. Moyer Avenue. The resident of the home called police saying he heard the shots fired, went outside, and saw Grantland walking from the residence to a red colored Ford Mustang, which fled from the scene. The resident told police he recognized Grantland and had previous contact with him.

RPD learned Grantland may be avoiding arrest while staying at the Oyo Hotel on China Lake Boulevard. When detectives responded to the hotel, Grantland fled on foot. Officers pursued him, scaling a 7 foot chain-link fence and numerous brick walls, and arrested him.

Grantland was booked on several charges including Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Resisting a Peace Officer.
