San Diego man arrested in Porterville for home invasion and assault

PORTERVILLE, Calif. — The Porterville Police Department arrested 34-year-old Karl Murphy of San Diego after he assaulted a man with a baseball bat and vandalized the victim's car.

According to PPD, Murphy arrived at the victim's home on Aug. 6 demanding to see his girlfriend. When the victim refused Murphy entry into the home, he vandalized the victim’s vehicle and forced his way into the residence. Once inside the residence, Murphy struck the victim several times with a baseball bat. It was not until the victim’s roommates intervened that Murphy fled the residence.

The following day around 10:10 a.m., officers received information that Murphy was staying at Motel 6 in Porterville. Officers responded there where Murphy was contacted and arrested.

Murphy was found in possession of the baseball bat he used during the assault. He was also found in possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and he was under the influence of a controlled substance.

Murphy was booked at the Tulare County South County Detention Facility, where he is being held in lieu of $50,000. He is being charged with home invasion, assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism exceeding $400, as well various drug charges.
