BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood released a video message Tuesday in response to the death of George Floyd. In his message, Youngblood said he and his staff, "could find no excuse for what the officers did and did not do."

Youngblood condemned the actions of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for kneeling on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes before Floyd died. He also condemned the fellow Minneapolis officers at the scene for not intervening.

The sheriff said he and his staff at KCSO are reviewing their own policies at this time to make sure they are using the best practices.
